Metro Fines

Forgive me if this question has been asked in the past, I did a cursory search but couldn't find anything.

As my fiance and I were on the Metro, on our way to Kastrup for our departing flight home, a conductor came on to check everyone's tickets. We showed her our tickets, and she promptly let us know that our tickets were wrong and informed us that we would be issued a fine. Apparently we needed a 3 zone ticket, but we had incorrectly purchased 2 zone tickets (which we had mistakenly been doing throughout our week long stay). Nothing we or the other passengers around us said or asked helped our case. We were unfortunately getting a fine, and that was that

We are not sure what to do... We obviously don't want to pay the fine, which we feel is undeserved. The fine is for 750DKK (about $130US), and is the same fine someone might get if they had NO ticket on the Metro. We had a ticket. As we suggested, we could have gotten off the train and purchased another ticket to make up for the difference. It's all very frustrating.

Has anyone had any experience with this type of thing in CPH? Did you pay the fine once you left Denmark? Have you since returned and was there any trouble? Have you run into any issues anywhere else because you have an unpaid Metro fine...?

Any advice, and especially personal anecdotal information, would be greatly appreciated!

Some people do get refunds, of course.

Did you manage to pay the fine in the end and if not did anything happen?

I am facing the same situation now. Is there any consequences if I can not pay the fare after 14 days? I am really afraid that it would leave some bad credit record.

If you're not an EU citizen I doubt there will be any consequences. But in principle the metro company could sell your bill to a debt collector.

This thread is 5 years old, and should possibly be closed.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but they are strict about protocol - both for tourists and locals.

You can complain here: http://intl.m.dk/#!/customer+service, if you entered the train before the ticket was expired, you might get it cancelled. Otherwise I'd recommend to just pay it.

@ SoundGuy

It doesn't matter when the conductor boards the metro. You will just have to have boarded the metro before the ticket expires.

I had a small incident in Copenhagen before two months where I got a fine ticket, it’s a totally different system than Czech regarding bus & train tickets, There was a different of 5 minutes, Long story short I lost that ticket and I just remembered that I didn’t pay, Is there any way to find it and pay the amount as i don't need any issue in the future regarding this.

Do you mean you lost your penalty fare ticket? It still exist in their system, so I would ask the metro company to get the information you need to pay it (if that's where you got your penalty fare) on: https://intl.m.dk/#!/customer+service
