Best area of Crete?

hey there

I'm trying to book a holiday to Crete for August and at the moment the cheap holiday websites are coming up with alot of holidays to Stalis. It looks like as good a place as any to stay, has anyone been there? We're looking for somewhere reasonably quiet with a nice beach.

Is there anywhere else on the island that may be suitable? Some of the sleepier less spoiled towns would be nice however I cant find any that have a particularly nice beach. And am worried that they'll be too quiet in terms of nightlife.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Hi Liz

Stalis is a family and couples orientated resort on Crete's north coast about halfway between the two party resorts of Hersonissos and Malia. It has a great, sandy beach and plenty ot do at night without being OTT. Lots of bars and restaurants but nowhere near the level of freneticism in it's neighbouring resorts. I don't think you'll find anywhere "quiet" in Crete in August, or on any other island for that matter as it is peak season.

You could look at towns like Paleohora and Matala on the south coast but these will be just as busy in August.

Hi Liz,

Try the Nikos Apartments in Stalis. They are family run and they cant do enought for you. Great fun at the bar every evening WITHOUT being OTT. A short walk (5 - 7 mins) from the Stalis Main drag where there are countless tavernas and bars - some of them very good indeed. They van be booked via Thomas Cook. Stalis is an ideal location to explore the Eastern and Southern parts of Crete.
