2nd hand used clothing in Greece?

Hi, I am looking for a 2nd hand used clothing shop in Athens, or other parts of Greece.

Usually these shops sell used clothing for 3-10euros, and they have names like Humana, Value Village, Goodwill, Salvation Army, but I would like to know what they are called in Greece, and where exactly in Athens to find them (addresses, or names will be helpful so I can look them up on Google Maps).

There are a couple of second-hand shops where the proceeds go to local charities. Pls. call ahead for the opening hours; they are probably on a different schedule than regular shop hours.

- Proin Agapimena Rouha / Perivolaki, on 13 Mouzouri street, near Rigillis street btwn metro stops Syntagma & Evangelismos (tel. 2107234743)

- Deftero Heri, on 14 Feidiou street (near Em. Benaki street), close to Omonia square/metro - karavani.gr/english/charityshop/index.html

(I haven't been to this place in years, not sure if they have clothes. They have accessories, small objects, and lots of books).

In the weeks preceding Christmas and Easter, several charities and animal welfare groups organize fundraising bazaars where you can find lots of second-hand clothes. Most of those are listed on the cityofathens.gr calender of events.

There are also shops known here as the "Amerikaniki Agora" selling secondhand clothes. Most of these are close to the flea market in Monastiraki & on Athinas street. Usually they're a level above the street shops, ask around (on Ifaistou street), look for the signs, and walk up the steps.

It's been decades since I last went shopping at a place like this, so I can't tell you what the current price ranges are.

Here are a few addresses for Amerikanikes Agores*

- Sofokleous 19, 1st floor (tel. 2103217051)

- Athinas 30, 2nd floor (tel. 210 3217876)

- Ermou 48, 1st floor (tel. 2103215740)

- 50 Pericleous street & 17 Romvis street, near Monastiraki square/metro (tel. 2103310294, mobile 6947187454)

There are also a few 'alternative' shops in the Exarhia neighborhood where you can find vintage clothes:

- Yesterday's Bread, 87 Kallidromiou street (tel. 2108811233)

- Prasinos Gatos, 142 Ippokratous street (mobile 6979178257)

- Sporos has a drop off point for free/donated clothes and items http://www.sporos.org/

- Preloved, 12 Moschonision street (mobile 6948701472)

And finally, you can find second-hand clothes at special street-fashion events such as:

http://www.swishing.gr (free exchange of clothes)

http://www.themeetmarket.gr (vendors selling vintage clothes)

*disclaimer - Most of the info about these places found on http://www.forfree.gr

I hope no one minds if I take the opportunity to mention something for my fellow Athenians.

If you have clothes to donate, pls. consider Helping Hands for men's clothing http://www.helpinghands.gr/help.htm, and the Elaionas prison for women's and children's items …blogspot.com/2008/10/blog-post_21.html . Thanks.
