Transportation between Amsterdam and Belgium Car vs Train ?

Hello ,

I am planning to have a trip in October in Amsterdam,Rotterdam, Antwerp, Brussel, Bruge and back to Amsterdam,

What is the best transportation method can be used during that journey? I am traveling alone .

Also , in case of trains , is there any way to purchase a one time ( prepaid train ticket ) that i can use in all of these cities ?

Cheers ,

The train is by far the easiest and most stress free option.

Start of my reading this excellent website about train travel; https://www.seat61.com

No there isn't, not in and not between them either. Apart from a Eurail pass covering (non-high-speed, so not Thalys) TRAIN travel in both Belgium and the Netherlands, but this will cost you more than buying individual tickets.

For train travel IN the Netherlands (e.g. Amsterdam-Rotterdam), you need to buy tickets from Dutch Railways, unless stopping off in Rotterdam on the way (same day) to Belgium, when you can buy a through-ticket Amsterdam-Antwerp (or Brugge, or Brussels) from https://www.b-europe.com/EN (Belgian Railways, international trips: and these can be cheaper purchased online in advance, especially if you want to use Thalys). For train travel IN Belgium, e.g. Antwerp-Brugge-Brussels, you need to buy tickets for the date of each trip from https://www.belgiantrain.be/en/home (same price no matter when you buy).

For buses, trams and metro in cities in Flanders (Antwerp, Ghent, Brugge), you can buy a multi-day/trip ticket from the Flemish public transport operator De Lijn: https:/…

You cannot use these in Brussels, however, which has a different transport operator. If you need it (you might not if you stay near Gare centrale and only want to visit the city centre), see www.stib-mivb.be/article.html… for formulas available from STIB ticket machines and www.stib-mivb.be/article.html… for those requiring prior purchase of a MOBIB card (€5) from certain metro station ticket offices.

Responses # 1 and 3 have good advice worth following and helpful information worth learning. Choose to travel by train for safety, convenience, and frequency of service and cost reduction in so many important ways. Stress free and much easier options so take the train for mobility. Learn much about the countries from riding the trains and looking around stations. Buying individual tickets at the station might be more cost wise. Hope this helps.

<<Learn much about the countries from riding the trains and looking around stations>>

How would you learn about the country by looking around the stations?😊

Guido, if you have nothing of value to add, it is better to keep silence.

To the OP: we traveled by car because we wanted to see the countryside. Loved Leuven not far from Brussels, for example... discovered it by chance, did not plan for it. The Gothic Town Hall in Leauven is stunning.

For our second trip, we will use a combination of trains and car. Driving into Brussels and getting stuck in traffic getting out of it was not fun (we were driving to Luxembourg), so trains would be a better choice for your first trip to Belgium, IMO.
