4 day itinerary -Please comment

Posting this as its own thread -

Coming in from Paris for a 4 day itinerary in Switzerland before traveling to Milan.

This will be in Summer (early July).

Here is what I was thinking -

Day 1 -Take the 8:00 AM TGV from Paris to Lausanne and on to Vevey or Montreux for stay.

Tour the Chateau de chillon in the afternoon/evening

Day 2 - Do the Gruyures Cheese tour and Chocolate tour via regional trains.

Day 3 - Leave to Luzern in the morning via goldenpass line

Explore Luzern in the afternoon/evening

Day 4 - Visit either Titlis or Mt. Rigi based on weather from Luzern.

Leave to Milan in the evening (17:00) ??

Thoughts ? Doable or too much travel ?

Lastly, looking to book family room (2 adults + 2 children) in Vevey/Montreux area

and there is almost no availability in early July.

Is this because it is too early (hotels are closed for winter) or already booked up ?

UPDATE :

I have booked two nights at Hotel Lavaux in Cully and it will be our base for Day 1 and Day 2.

I am now having second thoughts on going to Luzern for 1 night to visit Titlis or Rigi.

Instead, should we just extend our stay in Cully by 1 more night and

visit either Glacier 3000 or Mt.Blonc ?

Day 3 - Visit Glacier 3000 or Mt. Blonc from Cully

Day 4 - Leave to Milan around noon using the GP line trains (via Zweisimmen and Spiez)

Is Mt. Blonc doable in one day from Cully ?

How does it compare to Titlis or Rigi ?

Comments/Thoughts on this revision ?

Thanks in advance !

The Lavaux Hotel is very nice. It is though on the main road along the lake - but since most traffic takes the autoroute which is way above the vineyards the noise shouldn't be too bad.

Probably you would be wise not to race off to Luzern if you only have one day there. And there is a LOT to do in the area around Vevey and Montreux including some very good museums (Chaplin's World is superb).

Glacier 3000 is not particularly wonderful - and in July there will only be snow at the very top which is the actual glacier. It is somewhat complicated to get to as well, involving several changes of train and at the end of the journey the post bus from les Diablerets to the Col du Pillon.

To see the Mt Blanc (not "Blonc") you need to go to Chamonix. Getting there from Cully is very scenic indeed. Train to Vevey and change to the mainline train to Martigny. Change at Martigny to the Mt Blanc Express which takes 90 mins to get to Chamonix with one change of train at Vallorcine. This sector is just beautiful and runs through the mountains. At Chamonix you need to walk to the base station of the Aiguille du Midi cable car - allow 15 mins for that. Then go up. be aware that the last 2-3 mins of the second sector of the cable car is very very steep and if you have any vertigo at all - do not go! if you don't - you will love it. There is also "Step into the Void" where you can walk onto a clear balcony with a drop under it over several thousand metres. The views from the town of Chamonix up to the Mt Blanc are breathtaking.

if you have a Swiss travel pass the trip over and back to Chamonix is covered 100% Get all times etc on www.sbb.ch/en

Thanks again for the detailed reply. Yes, we decided to extend our stay in Montruex by another night instead

of moving to Interlaken. Another trip and time for eastern Switzerland :)

I still have to do the calculations on the ticket prices vs. pass but a guesstimate makes it look like the pass

may end up more expensive given that most of our Travel is going to be short distance/local and

we also should be getting the Riviera card myswitzerland.com/en-us/montreux-riviera-car… from the hotel.

Question on Epesses station (close to Hotel Lavaux) -

Does this station have a limited train service and stops only once an hour ?

If yes, what other options are there to get to Vevey ? Uber ?

Epesses is a village uphill from the Hotel Lavaux which is on the lake. The station for Epesses is down the hill from the village, closer to the lake... and a 4 mins walk from the Hotel Lavaux. Trains stop at the Epesses station once an hour. At other times you have the option of going to the station in Cully where trains stop roughly every 30 mins. To walk to the Cully station from the hotel will take you 20 mins.
