Definitely the train:
Airolo to Göschenen
Göschenen to Andermatt
Andermatt to Brig
Brig to Spiez
Spiez to Interlaken Ost
Interlaken Ost to Grindelwald
Will take around 5, 5 1/2 hours for the journey.
November 9th is way out of season for ski resorts and Grindelwald will be very quiet. not much to see in November around Airolo either...the high passes will be closed and ski lifts not running. Only thing I can think of recommending in Grindelwald would be to go to the Jungfraujoch IF you get a nice day but in November that is not a given either.
la stessa cosa!!
Airolo is not at all a good base to use if you want to sightsee in the Ticino. And November is not a good time either... if you cannot change your dates then look at Lugano or Locarno or Ascona. From Locarno you have a better connection to Grindelwald anyway -- via the Centovalli line to Domodossola and then train to Spiez, connect to Interlaken Ost and then to Grindelwald.
I saw beautiful houses in airolo, in the middle of alps via airbnb... so wanted to stay there... we just booked our air tickets, and still open to change our lodging in switzerland. =) thanks again for all your advises!
Airolo is not really in the middle of the Alps. It is on the southern flanc of the Alps. If you want to be in the middle of the Alps then Wengen or zermatt would be better choices. That said - November is a dire time to be in the mountains...most hotels etc are closed. And Airbnb is not at all well regarded here in Switzerland because many owners of these properties do not declare them to the authorities so you have no guarantee that standards of hygiene will be met nor that you money will be handled correctly. Best place to book any accommodation is via the local tourist office website. They have search engines and you can enter your dates of stay and all available will show on a list.
Thanks so much! Just want to enjoy the scenery, for sure far different from what we have here in Asia. =)
