7 /8 Days Switzerland - nature lover

HI there, I'm planning to go Switzerland in May with my husband and we love nature - mountains, streams, waterfalls, glacier caves and would also like to do some simple trekking.

Was thinking of having at most 2 bases (will be flying into Zurich).

Initally, I thought of staying @ Interlaken (but seems from the forum that this is not very ideal). Just wondering if any experienced guys have any advice to share? :) Thanks very much in advance.

Along with the bases, any one care to share any decent moderately priced accommodation ideas?

Hi Bluewaterz

May is between the seasons. There will most propably still be snow in the higher elevations which iks a problem as hiking paths will be closed and not many hotels available. This is different if you stay down in the valley. This time of the year Interlaken is not a that bad base as you have a lot of possiblilities for excursions to the mountains and on the same time down in the valleys. Here are a few links to show you:

etc

A budget option would be if you stay at the Haslital (for exemple Meiringen see link above).

An other option would be to stay at the Lucerne or Brunnen area - www.luzern.com and Top Questions about Lucerne (TA Lucerne forum) or www.brunnentourismus.ch or Top Questions about Brunnen (TA Brunnen forum). There are appartments for rent especialy at Brunnen (but also some at Lucerne).

From here you also have many options for sightseing as you will find out on the links.

For information about public transport see www.sbb.ch/en and for railpasses on www.swisstravelsystem.ch

etc

You can find more options on www.myswitzerland.com

Happy planing

To add to Pore's post - Meiringen is a really nice place. Smallish but with lovely scenery all round and not at all a bad base for visiitng the area. For example, the gorges or the Aar river which are very dramatic! and through which you walk on a sort of catwalk - are close by. So is the Reichenbach Falls where Sherlock Holmes fought Moriaty (or so Conan Doyle says...)

Ballenberg is amazing. And should be on every visitor's list since it gives you a chance to see architecture from all over the country in one place. You need about 4-6 hours there.

Pore has given you the websites for these places... enjoy your homework!
