Where to buy a Cameo?

We are going to Italy (Rome, Florence and Cinque Terre) in June 2011. My daughter is already saving her money to purchase a cameo from Italy for her souvenir. From what I have read, people say the Naples area is where they are more common; but I was hoping we could find some in the areas we are visiting. Any ideas on shops and prices would be appreciated.

I have no idea of prices, but here are listings from the Italian Yellow Pages:

In Florence, I'd look at Nos. 1, 9 and 10; the others are something different.

In Rome, I'd look at Nos. 2, 6, 7 and 10; the others ar either something different or too far from the center.

In Naples they're still selling grey plastic cameos to tourists and saying they're made of "larva". Be sure to visit a reputable shop.

I've had good luck buying cameos in reputable antique shops and "estate" jewelry stores that sell only previously owned jewelry.

Well, if you're restricted to the places you're intending to visit, you could buy one in Florence. There are plenty of jewellery shops that specialise in Cameos here. Obviously the Ponte Vecchio is one of the places you can go but it is of course the most expensive. Just off the Ponte Vecchio you can find a range of other jewellery shops that are better priced. I'd personally go to Oro Due - they are a very nice family of goldsmiths who produce their own work in their shop. They're on Via Lambertesca, no.12r (just a block or so from the Ponte Vecchio and close to the Uffizi gallery). Note that they close at lunchtime!

I am pretty sure the Gold Market in Santa Croce has a selection of cameos in the shop - even if they don't have them on their website. It is a large and reputable shop, been around since the 70s I think.
