Tourist numbers to Alghero

Hi

Tourist numbers to Alghero Airport are down 50% over last 2 years, do you know why this might be ie what is the cause?

Also what is being done to counteract this and reverse this worrying trend by Alghero Commune and Tourism Agencies?

Thanks

It's mainly a result of Ryanair closing its base in Alghero and drastically reducing the number of its flights.

Easyjet has stepped in from last Autumn with flights from the UK and is promising to remain for the long term. Ryanair has also in the past year increased its flights from the UK and other countries.

SOGEAAL, which runs the airport, is actively pursuing new destinations, and a few new ones have opened.

So hopefully it will turn around. Waiting for the outcome of this season to judge.

I don't realise where did you find such incorrect data, because the passenger volume in Alghero was around 1,300,000 passengers in 2016 and 2017, while in 2015 was 1,600,000. The decreasing of 300,000 passengers is attributable to ryanair which cancelled 2100 flights everywhere in Europe, Ryanair cut more than 10 flights in Alghero, the airport was a ryanair hub, too.

"where did you find such incorrect data"

Indeed, a drop of 300,000 from 1,600,000 is 19%. That is still a significant reduction by any standards, but certainly not half!
