Car Hire Debit card only - please help!!

We only have debit cards and I have realised that my car hire booking needs a credit card for the deposit (we booked using debit card no problem). We collect the car from Olbia airport this coming Sunday. Please help - do you know of a company that accepts debit cards? We are a family of four and very worried now about our holiday.

thanks for your help

You will need to look in the terms and conditions of different rental companies to see which ones will take a debit card. The Olbia Hertz website says they take some debit cards but that's no guarantee they will take yours.

Is there any way your bank can get you an expedited credit card? I would ask them.

Even 40 years ago I had trouble renting a car without a credit card. As soon as I got a steady job I applied for a credit card and used to use it only on vacations at first. Maybe in the future if you anticipate ever having to rent a car, you should apply for a credit card also.

Be sure the name on the card matches the name on the hire, and have the debit card with you as well.

**There was a black mark on the bumper which I didn't even notice when I took the car**

Again, you didn't "notice" the black mark on the bumper yet you want to claim it was already there. If you didn't document it being there then you're responsible for it. That's a pretty good sized scrape and it's not "hidden". If you had checked the car prior to the rental, and that damage was there, you would have seen it. It's not a scam for them to have you pay for damage that you caused.
