Long term rental accommodation in Liguria region

My husband and I are looking to realise a long held dream and live in Italy for a period of about 6 months from July, 2018. The Liguria coast region has been recommended to us and we are interested in the towns around Finale Ligure, Noli area. We have been looking at websites such as Air BnB, VRBO etc looking for furnished 2 or more bedroom houses or apartments but most of what we have seen seem to be properties that are suited more for short stay, holiday type periods rather than a stay for up to six months.

We were wondering if anyone knew of other websites, maybe real estate agents or specific houses for rent that would be more suited that we could look at? We are looking for a fully furnished house or apartment with 2 or more bedrooms, preferably with on site parking and an outdoor area and/or balcony that was easy access to the beach and town.

Look forward to receiving any suggestions/recommendations.

Many thanks.

Assuming you are Australian citizens, your first step should be to talk with the Italian Embassy about getting a long-stay visa. Without such a visa, Australians cannot stay more than 90 days in the European Schengen area.

Hi Sydneynick

We are aware of the visa situation but we cannot apply for elective residence visa until we secure accommodation for the period of our stay plus a number of other conditions.

soloaffitti.it

https://www.tecnocasa.it/

www.casa.it

Those are all national sites so you'll have to use the options to narrow down the area.

Your bigger problem is six months is not a long term rental. Search / ask for contratto transitorio which is a lease less then 18 months

There a long tradition of holiday homes in Liguria, with many people renting for the duration of the school holidays, from June to September.

You need to search for ‘case vacanza’

Here’s a couple more sites:

mediavacanze.com/case-vacanze-liguria/…

July and August are peak season and most expensive, but since you’re staying six months, you should be able to negotiate on the price.

Note that this region is big with locals, but foreigners usually only go to the Cinque Terre and Portofino area, so don’t expect everyone to speak English, especially if you’re renting from a private landlord.

To find estate agents in your intended area which specialise in rentals (though most do sales as well or more so) Google <finale ligure agenzia immobiliaria affitti>. I've just done this and it looks promising, if you can read Italian, but I note that most offers are "disponibile subito" - available at once.

However, arranging a rental agreement when you are not in Italy may be more difficult, except for established vacation rental properties where the owners are happy to have foreign renters and will have arrangements in place to receive payments or deposits from overseas.

Thank you Perilizia. It would be easy if I could speak Italian. Hopefully I will be able to after our 6 months in Italy.

Hi there,

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply but we are currently in Italy and I wanted to be able to advise you on each place we have stayed.

I don’t know what sort of Italian experiences you are after or what you like to to do with your time.

I am am happy for you to send me a private message so I can give you more information if you would like.

Over the years we have travelled extensively in Italy, north south east and west and the mountains to the sea.

This trip we spent a month in a small town called Castelnuovo Di Garfagnana which is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains about half an hour north of Lucca. This is not a tourist area but has amazing scenery and walks etc.

We also stayed in Gorizia as an overnight stay which was a lovely little town.

We then spent some time in the Argentario area which was amazingly beautiful I received a private message from a TA forum writer re this area. Italians holiday here.

We stayed in an amazing apartment in Port Ercole such a lovely working fishing village, it is surrounded by 5 forts.

We are now stayIng in Finale Liguria which we love an Italian friend told us about, it is on the Italian Riviera great sandy beach, fantastic old town, with a magestic town next door to it called Final Borgo one of the most beautiful towns in Italy.

This area has a mountain backdrop and is big area for hikers, mountain bikers climbers etc.

We have also been to Sicily and loved it great beaches food and wine.

Let me know your preferences and I will try to advise you bearing in mind during your dates many areas will still have snow.

Cheers
