Car Rental

Travelling in May to Sant'Andrea Apostol dello Ionnio. At this point, plan is to fly to Rome, spend a day or so, take train to Lamezia, rent a car and drive the rest of the way. Just wondering if there are any other places in Catanzaro to rent a car. Expedia.com and travelocity.com and car companies (even eurocar) have nothing.

Hi puryear270,

you could fly Rome - Lamezia with Alialia and Airone but both companies at the moment are having some economical issues and are not very relaible at the moment (maybe in the next months):

http://www.flyairone.com/en/

on the train from Rome to Lamezia it takes 5 or 6H on the Intercity and 4 or 5H on the Eurostar, for train time tables go to:

www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp…

Since you will need a car to get to Sant'Andrea in any case you might as well rent a car from Lamezia.

There are several Car rental at Lamezia Airport:

www.sacal.it/index.php…

and from ''Lamezia Terme Centrale'' (train station FF.SS. Centrale) there is a bus running to the airport:

www.lameziamultiservizi.it/index.php…

A taxi from Lamezia train station to Lamezia airport shouldn't be too expensive, it's only 1,5 miles distance.

From the airport to Sant'Andrea is an easy drive of 42miles (1h 10mins).

Hope it helps

Salvo

Did not realize AirOne is having difficulties. Alitalia, on the other hand, is always having economic difficulties. I don't think they could operate without them.

The info about from the train station to the airport terminal in Lamezia helps out greatly. Did not know about the bus.

Thanks much.

Unfortunately Airone and Alitalia merged into one company...

the good news is that on yesterday's newspaper there is an article talking about a new service Rome-Lamezia starting in March 09 and operated by Blu-express (Italian low cost):

blu-express.com/cgi-bin/airkiosk/I7/181002i…

the webpage has not been updated but maybe worth keep an eye on it and check again in few days.
