you can take metro line 5 from Opera stop (5 mins from your hotel) till Nuñez de Balboa stop. From there there will be about 10 mins walking to Serrano, but you already are in the shopping district (so 10 mins of shopping)

or you can take bus 51 from Sol and stop at Velazquez-Maria de Molina stop.

From Sol take line 2 (the red one) towards Las Rosas and get off at Retiro station. Calle Serrano is two blocks away in a westward direction.

I agree with Revulgo’s advice to go to Retiro metro station.

You could also walk, it is a pleasant walk and much to see on the way. From Sol just walk up to the Gran Via, go straight ahead at Plaza Cibeles up Calle Alcalá and then once you see the Alcalá turn left into Calle Serrano.

Retiro Park is on the other side of the Alcalá and well worth a visit. If you have time head to Platea on Calle Goya for some drinks and tapas.

Taxis are inexpensive in Madrid.

Shopping in the Barrio Salamanca: Calle Serrano, Claudio Coello, Ortega y Gassett, Calle Goya.
