Visiting Dortmund

Me and the frau are thinking about visiting Dortmund end of January/early February. Can anyone give any tips on where the best location is to stay during our stay? We are looking at visiting the football museum, and also want to sample the bars of Dortmund, in particular any metal bars, or old style German brewery type bars.

All help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mr. Keith Morrell esq.

Dortmund is a fairly bland city in my opinion. Assuming you're flying into Dortmund airport, I would consider taking the train from Dortmund to nearby Münster and staying there.

Hi Keith Morrell,

here is a site with some suggestions for pubs, bars and nightlife

dortmund.de/en/…index.html

Traditional German pubs/restaurants are the "Gänsemarkt"

https://www.tripadvisor.de/Restaurant_Review…

and "Zum alten Markt"

But there are some more around the city...

Enjoy

Thanks for the reply. We are actually flying into Dusseldorf and having 2 nights there (we have been there before, so know where to go), but wanted to visit another nearby city for another 2 nights. We've already been to Cologne, so Dortmund looked to be a good next choice, providing there were plenty of things to keep us entertained on an evening.

Sorry, but I´m no "expert" for nightlife in Dortmund. Normally I go there for shopping, Christmas markets, museums and some walks, but at night I go back to my home town:-))

Another convenient city would be Essen. For a traditional brewery house you can go to "Dampfe" in Essen-Borbeck

http://www.dampfe.de/

or to Essen Rüttenscheid where you will find numerous pubs, bars and restaurants, from posh till simple

What kind of pub/bar/ restaurant do you prefer?
