One day trip to Chamonix

Hello,

We are planning a day trip to Chamonix from Geneva on mid October. we thought the best option to arrive would be with a car, and I wanted to ask if is there a free parking in a central location (we will probably make a walk around town and go to Aiguille du Midi).

As well would like to know if is there any road fees and recommendations about what to do in Chamonix (we are a couple).

Thank you

You won't be going to the Aiguille du Midi, it's closed as will be the other cable cars. Frankly, unless the weather is perfect, a trip to Chamonix in mid-October is a waste of time and money.

Hi! In fact, October in Chamonix valley is the worst month as for cable car rides. Many of them (and the Montenvers rack and pinion railway also) are closed.

Anyway, the first stretch of Aiguille de Midi cable car (up to Plan de l'Aiguille) is open:

Chamonix without the Aiguille du Midi ride isn't really worth it. If you can visit areas like Briançon and the Vallée de la Clarée or Château Queyras. Not practical as a day trip from Geneva though. Probably best to just visit places like Annecy, Sixt Fer à Cheval, or Yvoire.
