It's likely to be COLD. Marseille at that time of year is on the quiet side, but there are various things on - art shows, opera, music, etc, plus the Blue Coast open-air seafood feasts. Sights such as the MuCEM, Notre Dame will be open too. More about Provence generally in winter marvellous-provence.com/four-seasons-in-prov…

We were in the south of France for 8 weeks last November/December/January and visited Marseilles on 2 occasions. The first occasion in late November was quite warm, 16 degrees, and we had to shed our jackets. The second occasion, just after Christmas was cooler but not really cold. Coming from Australia we had expected our entire stay in Europe to be really cold but we were quite surprised. However, I believe that last winter was mild and the previous year temperatures had been a lot lower so maybe we were lucky. As regards things to do, the Christmas market on the quai was open as was Notre Dame (which was wonderful) but we found just walking around, especially through the Old Town was very interesting. Marseille on the whole is a very interesting place and I'm sure you will not be short of anything to do. Good luck and safe travels.

Just a further note re the climate: yes indeed, as molletts found, you can get amazingly mild days in winter, but the weather can turn on a dime from sub-zero to warm sunny days (and back again), sometimes in a matter of a few hours.

It's very much the luck of the draw, so don't count on warm temperatures though you may be lucky enough to get them.

Although I like Marseille I suggest you consider going to Nice instead. The weather is slightly more temperate there in winter.
