Lille, Amiens, Arras

I will be spending 4 days in Lille and thinking of day trips out. Any suggestions? Won't rent a car so public transport only.

Is Amiens better than Arras? Are train tickets more cost effective if booked online in advance or no difference? Are they likely to get fully booked?

Thank you!

Have been to all three, all worth visiting.

Was in Arras en route from Amiens back to Lille, so did not visit any of the museums. the two main squares are certainly beautiful.

Spent two nights in Amiens, the cathedral and the floating vegetable gardens are unique. visit-amiens.com/accueil/…les_hortillonnages

From Lille other easy trips are Boulogne-sur-Mer with its walled town and the aquarium Nausicaa, and Dunkirk with its Operation Dynamo museum "Mémorial du Souvenir"

From Amiens there are a few trains going to Rouen, in case you have got the time and the interest.

All trains are TER so no need to book in advance.

Lille is only a couple of miles from the Belgian border, so as well as Amiens and Arras, you could also consider Gent, Brugge (Bruges), Ieper(Ypres) or Antwerp.

All of these are less than 2 hours from Lille by train, but you would have to change trains to get to Brugge or Ieper. You do not have to book in advance for these trains.
