Driving from Paris to south of France and back to Paris

Hello

We are planning on visiting France mid August with kids age 3 and 5.

We are thinking of arriving in Paris. Stay there 2 nights. Then drive to south of France. Stay there for 5 nights and drive back to Paris to fly out to USA.

Husband and myself have visited Paris before so we have seen all touristy parts. We really want to see south of Paris this Time.

We have total 10 days.

Which cities south of France would you recommend and hotels ?

Thanks

The south of France covers a HUGE area from Italy to Spain. It's usually easier and cheaper to reach your destination by train, and then rent a car once you're there. Ant idea of where you want to go?

Check route on Viamichelin from Paris to Nice - not fun for 2 young children. Do you really want to go to Paris, is it possible for you to fly direct to Nice? Or fly to Paris with a connecting flight to Nice.

You do realize that the distance you would be driving is like going from Seattle to Los Angeles?

Fly into Paris, see what you want to see there. Take a train to Marseille. Then rent a car and tour around Provence, Fly home out of Marseille.

You might want to narrow down the area you intend to visit.

And, that drive from Seattle to L.A. has similar challenges (roads are not always fast).

Is it Nice and Marseilles because of the beaches? Because so much of the Loire and Provence are simply amazing.

<<Fly into Paris, see what you want to see there. Take a train to Marseille. Then rent a car and tour around Provence, Fly home out of Marseille.>> This is what I would recommend, too. What you spend on train tickets and maybe a little more on airfare will be saved by not renting a car, paying for all that (expensive) gas, and tolls. Do keep in mind that the beach cities are really crowded during August (like really, really crowded!).

I would look at booking your return out of southern France which as others said is really a huge area. You will have to connect but better than driving all that way and you would probably have to drive up the day before your flight so you get an extra day in the south.

welcome,

depending on your flight out, it maybe better to stay the night in Paris or close to CDG.

good luck.

Mid-August is a busy time for the South of France. The French and other Europeans head on holidays, so you need to get cracking! South of France extends from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic so you will need to decide where in the South of France you want to be. You need to train to the south, not drive. Once you can focus on a city, town, village(s),come back and we can assist better, although we are not a hotel search service ;) That would be more like booking.com or TA job. See if you can fly open-jaw. Maybe into Paris and out of .. Nice (?) There is no reason to backtrack. And do get going on this, if you intend to travel this August.

If you really want to know about driving routes and costs, not taking into account any delays (frequent in August) or stops see www.viamichelin.com . I only drive when I have vast amounts of equipment to transport, otherwise train/plane wins hands down each time.
