Suggestions for lunch not too far from M4

We are planning to meet up with friends for a weekday lunch at a mid point between Newbury and Cardiff along the M4. I've just spent the last hour sifting through reviews for pubs around Bristol, Bath and Swindon....and have 2 possibilities but not inspired by either so far.....so lets try the local expertise!

We will be a party of four adults, one plain eater, one vegetarian (although he will eat fish, not seafood, at a pinch).

We don't want to drive too far from the M4 (ie I think Cricklade would be too far)

Any suggestions please?

Thanks,

Fang

Although not halfway by a long margin,The White Hart on the Wanborough road also serves excellent food.We stayed there about a year ago and both dinner and breakfasts were first class.Again it is a 10 minute drive from the motorway and is found at the A419/A420 junction just off the roundabout.

An old colleagu of mine always liked this place

I've never been there. He always said the food was very good, but the main reason he used it was because it was very close to the M4..

Yep I second Sally’s, it’s literally 5 minutes off Junction 16, very reasonable prices and huge portions. If you fancy something a bit more, well, fancy, Three Crowns at Brinkworth is good. But it’s about 15 minutes from J16.

Ha! I bet my old mate was most impressed by the huge portions! He always had a healthy appetite :-)
