Westport vs. Clifden or both

Westport and/or Clifden will be at the end of 18ish day trip (still figuring it out) and am wondering if I should use Westport as a 3-night homebase instead of splitting nights between Clifden & Westport. Definitely want to see Kylemore Abbey and Connemara. We are mid-50's and like to have access to good pubs/restaurants after our days exploring - this might also be a golfing spot for my husband so either some shopping or spa for me :-) We will have a car but am not sure what the roads are like and if drive times are close to accurate.

Connemara golf links in Ballyconneely, is one of the most beautiful courses I have ever seen.

Driving, occasionally there might be farm equipment / tractors on the roads as well as a few random sheep that may wonder on to the road, which is anywhere in Ireland and N.I.

Our trip isn’t until June 2025, but we decided on Westport. We’re going to hire a private driver for the day to take us to Kylemoore Abbey and the sky road and we might dip into Clifton for a visit.

Good choice though I could also have said that if you choose Clifton as a base!

Good choice. Beautiful lively town that has kept its character and not just become a tourist town like Clifden. Great eating options and trad sessions in some wonderful pubs.
