Westport to Galway

We'll be in Westport for a few days then driving to Galway. We'll have plenty of time from check out in Westport to check in in Galway. Any suggestions for what to do and see en route? We have some mobility issues so anything involving a lot of walking is not for us. We'll be there in mid-October. Thanks!!

You don't mention what attracts you to Ireland (Scenery, ruins, architecture, shopping, etc.), but here's a route that might appeal:

https://goo.gl/maps/6KfoBn6SUGzXqfeL6

Starting in Westport, drive out to Westport Quay (Clew Bay), past the Famine Sculpture (Murrisk - at the base of Croagh Patrick) and then, through Louisburg and Delphi (Doo Lough Valley). Along the way: Killary Fjord, Famine Monument Aasleagh Falls. From Leenaun, Kylemore Abbey, a drive through / past Connemara National Park (Letterfrack), then along the Sky Road past Clifden Castle, into Clifden -- where there are plenty of shopping and lunch options.

Personally, I would hold out for lunch at O'Dowd's, in Roundstone. There's also a small 'Craft Village' that might also appeal for shopping. From there, further notable stops might include: Joyces Craft Shop / Connemara Giant (Recess), the Quiet Man Bridge, Aughnanure Castle (at opposite sides of Oughterard),

Moycullen offers shopping at Connemara Marble and Connemara Celtic Crystal.

great ideas from IC....love O'Dowd's.....

there is also Glengowla Mines https://www.glengowlamines.ie/ where you can see a sheep herding demonstration, and turf cutting....it's about 5-10 minutes west of Oughterard and well worth your time even if you can't go into the mine.....they also have some beautiful things in their shop, made from the finds there....

That's an incredible post by Italian Chauffeur. It's hard to top that but perhaps one could add the Coral Strand if driving through the Carraroe area.

Here is another route that takes you along the western edge of Lough Mask through the Partry Mountains. It is part of the South Mayo Lake District. There are some beautiful scenic areas on this route also. It should take about 1.5 hours to drive. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Westport,+Co.+Mayo,+Ireland/53.2680023,-9.0589783/@53.653251,-9.6603985,10z/data=!4m19!4m18!1m15!1m1!1s0x485963563ffd09af:0xa00c7a99731ea80!2m2!1d-9.5143467!2d53.8021307!3m4!1m2!1d-9.3338212!2d53.6991029!3s0x485bdf9e14e9adbd:0xf6343df6a2ec8028!3m4!1m2!1d-9.4037508!2d53.6196366!3s0x485bdbdb08dacdb9:0x6e351f77573aecc2!1m0!3e0

Here's an easier link to herr's map: https://goo.gl/maps/i4MFxSmEpDSUoj6D9

However, if that route appeals, might I suggest adding a couple of 'Detours'?

Thanks for sharing that, Italian Chauffer. That does make it much easier to access the map.
