It's pretty short notice but we'll be flying into Dublin with thoughts of renting a car and just going!. Any ideas on activities that might be happening during that time or places we really should see would be appreciated. Having just found out two days ago I've been online almost constantly and am feeling a bit overwhelmed as to where to start. We're middle of the road travellers with the occasional splurge, more about jeans than suits, love music and of course want to see it all!

How nice for you!

Have a look at this site to see if there's anything happening that interests you:

Recommend you spend a couple of nights in Dublin, get over the travel/jetlag and take time to enjoy the city. If you have a look at the right-hand side of the Dublin forum page, you'll find lots of helpful information on popular sites to visit, best pubs/restaurants and tips on travelling in from

the airport. You won't need a rental car until you leave the city.

You could travel the southern route via Wicklow, Cork/Kerry, then on through Clare and Galway before returning to Dublin:

or, you could head north, stopping at Newgrange, which is fascinating:

then up via Belfast to the Antrim coast to see the Giant's Causeway, Dunluce Castle, before travelling across to Donegal:

then drive via Sligo and Mayo to Galway:

If you book your first night or two, and your final night, you should be ok "winging it" with the rest of your accommodation, as you'll be in Ireland just before the Easter holidays when some places might get busy. Or, you might prefer to pre-book everything if you can decide how much time you want to spend in each area.

Recommend you purchase a copy of the Ordnance Survey Complete Road Atlas of Ireland - either before you arrive, so you can get a sense of direction/distance:

www.irishmaps.ie/product/display.cfm…

and if you want to book somewhere a bit special for a night or two, have a look at these web-sites:

This site will also help with routeplanning if you want to organise an itinerary:
