Dublin to Shannon

We are staying in Dublin for a couple of days then flying out of Shannon. Our intention is to spend the night around Shannon airport on Friday night, we have an early flight on Saturday morning. We will rent a car at Dublin airport Friday morning, what would be a good day trip, any advice where to stay Friday night. Thank you for any advice.

The Oakwood Arms in Shannon is well positioned for the airport and is an excellent hotel www.oakwoodarms.com

If you drive from Dublin towards Galway there are a number of interesting places to visit including the following:

Kilbeggan Distillery www.kilbeggandistillery.com

Clonmacnoise heritageireland.ie/en/…

Galway itself

You could drive down to Shannon via the Burren

Thank you very much, that is helpful, we don't mind driving a bit further and arriving back in the Shannon area late at night if you think other excursions could be nice too.

I think you should stay at Bunratty.. It is very convenient To the airport only about 10-15min You could spend the day there before there's a folk park Castle and shops it is the number one tourist spot that all Americans go to .. I highly recommend you stop there..

Another option via Clonmacnoise, Birr, Nenagh Ballina/Killaloe and Sixmilebridge to the Oakwood Arms

http://goo.gl/maps/PVKIa or via Portumna rather than Nenagh and drive down Lough Derg's western side. http://goo.gl/maps/gMzaR or National Stud and Japanese gardens, Rock of Dunmaise, Rock of Cashel, Cahir castle and if you have a late departure? Carrigerry House NoF. http://goo.gl/maps/mqPjE
