Transportation from cruise dock to Trinity College area

We will be in Dublin in May. Our cruise ship docks at 8 am. What is the best means of public transportation to get to the Trinity

College area near the museums and pubs? I saw that the cruise ship had walking tours starting at Trinity College but didn't say that the tour started from the ship. Is it possible just to walk from the ship to Trinity College?

Other than taxi, public transportation from the docks to the city centre is very limited. It about 3 miles from the docks to the city centre area around Trinity and the museums. A taxi should cost about €10-15 depending on traffic etc. which might be a little heavy at 8.00 - 9.00am. However, due to the distance involved, most cruise ships appear to provide shuttle services to the city centre.

Hi have a look also at the top questions on Dublin on the right hand side of this page - you will see a link 'In Dublin on a Cruise Ship for a day' - might be helpful.

I've seen a lot of private buses on hire to cruise ships ferrying passengers from the boat to the city centre, maybe your cruise ship will also provide this transport, worth checking with them.

The usual thing is for your ship to arrange shuttle buses as you are not supposed to just wander around the port, they should drop off and pick up at a pre -arranged point in Central Dublin. Always, before leaving your ship, make sure you know the name of the dock and the berth, if you miss the last bus or decide to taxi back you need to be able to tell the driver where you want to go - 'The docks, please' is too vague. You should do this at every port of call.
