Weather in Ireland in May 18

Hi, We will be in Ireland from the second week till the end of May. Going to Dublin, Ennis and Galway. How would the weather be at that time. Rain? Does one have to bring on warm clothes and a jacket? We come from a place that is 37/39 deg c during the day for most parts of the year.

I have been reading about the weather but would like inputs from the locals

Thanks for a reply

the weather can change dramatically

one day you could be basking in high 20s, and the next it could be lashing rain

Bring a rain mac, bring layers, check the forecast then on a daily basis

You are likely to find Ireland cold if you’re used to 37-39 c, but you’ll be fine with waterproofs and a choice of warm layers to go underneath. Maybe hats and scarves for cooler days - you’ll be able to buy these when you’re in Ireland.

May is often sunny but not very warm, 16 degrees might be average

The hours of sunlight are very long in May, bright until 9pm so plenty of opportunity for sight seeing

I would recommend a light water proof jacket and a fleece

Is there any ice or snow in the north?

no, definitely not, if you are referring to the North of Ireland!

The flat answer is nobody knows.

If you had asked in even December 2017 what the weather was going to be like in February 2018, nobody would have suggested that there would be 10 foot snowdrifts - well if they had, they would have been laughed out of it - but we did have 10 foot snowdrifts in parts of the country in February.

Today it is beautiful, sunny, warm and dry. Next week there are some suggestions there may be snow on high ground.

there is no way to get a weather forecast so far in advance, but i think that the odds are that it would be reasonably warm with maybe some showers.

any chance of snow is basically zero. we rarely have snow even in deep winter but this year we did have a snowy spell. weather forecast for next week shows absolutely no sign of snow and even projected forecast , based on average stats over many years, shows nothing.

google "accuweather ( and name of city or town) " to get these projections.

Perhaps not. But I moved over for the weather I love it. Imagine going to bed and not knowing whether tomorrow will bring an Atlantic storm or brilliant sunshine. Or both at once!
