Two night Dublin trip itinerary

Hi all!

My husband and I are staying in Dublin for the first time for 2 nights in August (6th and 7th).

We are staying in a guest house in Drumcondra, so would have to use public transport to and from the city centre (Leap card). We will also buy a Dublin Pass for the Tuesday, which includes a Hop on hop off bus tour. Please have a look at our itinerary and let me know if this is doable. Any comments will be welcome.

Monday 6 Aug:

Arrive at Dublin International airport (+/- 12:00)

Take bus to guest house

Take bus to city centre

(15:00?) Trinity College & Book of Kells

If there's time, take bus to Kilmainham Gaol and tour the inside

Dinner & back to guest house

Tuesday 7 Aug:

Take HOHO bus tour around the city

National Gallery

National Museum of Ireland Archaeology (see the bog bodies)

Christ Church / St Patrick's Cathedral / Dublin Castle (which one to pick?)

Lunch

Jameson Distillery Tour

Dinner

Guinness Tour (open till 20:00)

Wednesday morning we are flying to Inverness for the next part of our trip.

You should book your tour of Kilmainham Goal online in advance - it gets very busy indeed and you are travelling in peak season. . I think you can also book Trinity College in advance which might save some queuing time - but hopefully others will confirm, as I have never done this.

Try not to miss the Goal - you might be able to fit it in on your second day as the HoHo stops nearby. Maybe swop for one of the cathedrals on day 1 as you don’t need a guided tour of the Cathedrals? I’d choose the cathedrals over the Castle but that’s just me.

In Drumcondra if you’re staying near Drumcondra station you should take the train into the city rather than a bus. Trains take about 5 minutes to reach the city centre and buses take about 15-20 minutes. Also the buses in Ireland are bad. Sometimes there isn’t a bus for half an hour and then three come at once! The trains operate on a 20 minute frequency and always come within 5 minutes

I would split the Jamison and Guinness to different days since the liquors are different from one another.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. I slotted in Kilmainham Gaol on the Tuesday morning, and then moved the Cathedrals to the Monday. The Jameson and Guinness Tours are part of the Dublin pass, and are fairly close to each other, that's why I have to schedule both of them on the same day.

Current itinerary:

Monday 6 Aug:

Arrive at Dublin International airport (+/- 12:00)

Take bus to guest house

Take bus to city centre

(15:00?) Trinity College & Book of Kells

Christ Church Cathedral / St Patrick's Cathedral

Dinner & back to guest house

Tuesday 7 Aug:

Take HOHO bus tour around the city

Kilmainham Gaol

National Gallery

National Museum of Ireland Archaeology (see the bog bodies)

Lunch

Jameson Distillery Tour

Guinness Tour (18:00 last entry)

After your Cathedral tour, dinner in here might fit the bill.

And for lunch after the National Museum, try the pub grub in here.

You'll never be waiting half an hour for a bus into the city in Drumcondra. It's one of the main routes into the city centre from the northside and many, many buses pass through it. The longest you will be waiting is 10 mins max.
