Hotels near Fota Island that are child friendly?

Hi - we are thinking of heading to Fota Island with our 16.5 month old baby. Would any have a child friendly hotel with good facilities for kids (e.g. a swimming pool, playroom etc.) and that might provide access to a kitchen for doing bottles.

Many thanks,

H.

What about the Sheraton at Fota Island? Check it out - GORGEOUS hotel. Doubt any hotel would allow you into the kitchen though - health and safety and all that. It's expensive but depending on your dates of travel you might get a good deal.

If Sheraton is too expensive the next nearest place I know of is Silversprings, (about 4 miles from Fota Island) has the leisure centre and is on the road to Fota Island.

Then there is Midleton Park, also a leisure centre and they might be more relaxed about the baby bottle thang !! (About 4 miles from Fota Island)

Then there is the Waterfront hotel in Cobh, lovely location overlooking the water, but no leisure centre. (About 6 miles from Fota Island)

There are a number of city centre hotels that would fit your bill and Fota Island is very easy to drive to from the city. It's only about 8 miles.

Come back if you need any more info

Thanks for that. I really appreciate it. I was talking to some one that was at the Sheraton 2 weeks ago and was a little disappointed with it from a child friendly perspective. Their little boy wasn't allowed into certain areas of the pool and there wasn't much else available for kids. Also the person wasn't overly impressed with the food for what they were paying. So I kind of ruled it out on that basis. But perhaps they just had a bad experience and we might get lucky?

If you any where else that you think might be good for kids, let me know.

Thanks again

Hi,

A similar post came up last year that may be of use to you:

Maybe renting an apartment might be suitable with leisure/hotel facilities attached, such as Brookfield Hotel/ Holiday Village:

That post from Travette reminds me that the Capella in Castlemartyr is open again. It might interest you, though it's about 10 miles to Fota Island.

Another hotel which is very child friendly is the

Rochestown Park hotel. It is located in Rochestown and very easy to get to from the link road. It is in a good location for walking to Douglas village - which has lots of restaurants and a couple of shopping centres and a cinema. It is also near to Mahon Point a very large shopping centre and multiplex cinema.

Check out their website www.rochestownpark.ie

They have a lovely pool. A nice bar area and a small garden area. We had bar food there recently and it was very nice. We had the carvery lunch previously and it wasn't as good.

Plenty of parking there too.

Good luck

In defence of Sheraton Fota, we stayed there last year with a 2 and 5 year old and had a brilliant time. The children were well treated and there was a great kids club. Yes, you're not allowed in the pool in the middle of the day but in fairness we were out and about every day so that didn't matter. There are two restuarants. One is fancy, the other's just ordinary and the children were welcomed. And when the weather is good you can eat out on the veranda with view of the golf course with tonnes of space for the children to run about. Also, you can eat bar-type menu in the clubhouse at the golf course, only a couple of minutes walk.

We stayed in the main hotel but there are houses on the golf course that you can rent. You would have a kitchen here.

Also, Clonakilty model railway was a great day out for a spin on the road train. And Inchadoney beach is gorgeous too.

Hope this is of some help to you.
