Where to Stay near Cliffs of Moher?

We're flying into Shannon and heading to Cliffs of Moher and spending the night nearby. Not sure which town to go with though. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We will have a car if that makes a difference and the next day we're headed to Dingle.

Thanks!

If you want to escape the crowds then head for Fanore...30 minutes drive north along the coast from the Cliffs.Beautiful quiet location but with a pub, restaurant and shop which should cater for your needs.Have a look at www.fanoreinfo.com for further information

Fannor is a good option. The mass vote would be Doolin or Ballyvaughan. I would suggest you go up to the cliffs and work your way back over the Burren and down to Ennis. You would then be by the main road under the Shannon and past Listowel, Tralee and Dingle

I think alot depends on which route you want to take from Clare to Dingle. I've driven both routes: down the west coast and across the Shannon using the car ferry, and via Limerick using the Shannon tunnel. Scenery-wise, I much prefer the west coast and ferry route:

which, if you choose to take it, makes Fanore a good choice: a lovely, peaceful and untouristy stop with great sea views.

Otherwise, as tony has mentioned, both Doolin and Ballyvaughan are very popular choices with many guest houses and b&bs to choose from, and pubs/restaurants too:

If you want to drive via Shannon tunnel, then agree Ennis is a good option.

We drove a lot around the Burren last May and there were many nice places which are not far from the Cliffs of Moher and which, I think, would better places to stay than Doolin, the closest village to the Cliffs. We, regrettably, did stay in Doolin one night which was not much more than a lot of B&Bs and tourist-filled pubs.

Fanore seemed lovely and Ballyvaughan was a good-sized town with a lot of amenities. Kilfenora also looked good when we stopped there to see the High Crosses and I read a lot of positive things about Lisdoonvarna. We stayed one night in Corofin which was great. None of these towns is more than 40 minutes from the Cliffs.
