Take the ferry.
Its a fun trip and is close-ish to where you are.

If you go past Limerick, you'll get to see a few more places, but it takes longer (obviously). One thing you'd get to see near Limerick, if you like that sort of thing, is Carrigogunnell Castle, just off the N69, after Clarina. It's not well signposted, but it was one of the most spectacular ruined castles I saw in Ireland.
