One night splurge!

We'll be in Ireland from Apr 6-24 and have rented a car. Booked a couple of night's B&B to start but have left the rest loose. I would really like to stay in one "splurge" manorhouse or castle without feeling too intimidated.Please...where would You choose?

That would depend on where your travels are taking you? I would say Ballynahinch Castle Hotel but that's no good if you are not near the Conamara.

There are a number of obvious choices such as Ashford Castle, Dromoland Castle etc. But as Tony has said it really depends on where you will be there are a lot of hidden gems around the country. Have a look at this website for ideas.

Tony,

We're fairly footloose and fancy free; so far we've booked a b&b near Cashel and then head to Dingle, Galway, Donegal and on to see the Giant's Causeway before heading back to Dublin so really we could end up almost anywhere. Other than The National Stud and the Causeway there wasn't anything set in stone...I figured I could very well fall in love with any area and want to stay!

I looked at Ashford...it just seems a bit much and to be honest the splurge is that of a middle class couple and I can't see spending the dollars for their best rooms;maybe I should be considering a Manore Home instead?

Have a look at Carton House in Maynooth just outside Dublin. They do good offers from time to time

Without wishing to send too many of your hard earned $ up North how about Ballygally Castle between the Causeway and Belfast and have some amassing offers at times.

Hi straygirl, I'd do the splurge on a high-end Dublin hotel....or even one of the fine Belfast hotels (sorry, also sending up North there :)

straygirl

have a look at this web-site too. not so much "splurge" (ie no "luxury castles") but really nice places to stay that are a bit different:
