Is it possible to buy a cell phone in Ireland & buy minutes just to use while in the country, eg. Trac Phone in USA.? If so, where can they be purchased?

Yes, you can buy a prepaid cell phone in Ireland - most posters here recommend buying one at Tesco's, a chain with stores throughout the Republic.

Thanks for the website to Tesco. I presume we can find a store in central Dublin where we can buy a phone once we get there.

Just a note Tesco Express`s tend to be more smaller convenience stores, and I dont think they would sell mobile phones??, however you can top them up there.

I'd be interested in picking up a PAYG phone at Tesco as well. Is there one near Lower Gardiner?

There is a tesco express in Talbot Street (just around the corner from Gardiner Street)

As it happens I am in Dublin today, and will be passing the store, I will pop in and check. Will post back later
