Is it possible to buy a cell phone in Ireland & buy minutes just to use while in the country, eg. Trac Phone in USA.? If so, where can they be purchased?

Yes, you can buy a prepaid cell phone in Ireland - most posters here recommend buying one at Tesco's, a chain with stores throughout the Republic.

Tesco offer phones from €20 and a similar top up should see you through a two week vacation. link for the Tesco site.

Top up phones in Ireland are called PAYG ( Pay as you go).I think! If your looking at a cell phone to buy.

Just a note Tesco Express`s tend to be more smaller convenience stores, and I dont think they would sell mobile phones??, however you can top them up there.

There is a tesco express in Talbot Street (just around the corner from Gardiner Street)

As it happens I am in Dublin today, and will be passing the store, I will pop in and check. Will post back later
