Donegal to Bushmills Transportation

Good Day! We are looking for public transportation from Donegal to Bushmills (Giants Causeway) and then on again to Belfast and then Dublin Airport. Can you suggest any for train, bus or any combination. to accomplish this? Thank you.

Hi,

Donegal Town to Derry - Bus Eireann No. 64

Belfast Europa station to Dublin Airport - Goldline Bus No. 200 (also known as Bus Eireann No. 1).

For bus/train travel within Northern Ireland, here is a link:

http://www.translink.co.uk/

I find this website quite hard to navigate - please post for help on the Northern Ireland forum, here on TA.

Your journey is not easy to do on public transport. Also, I'm unclear as to the timescale within which you want to do this trip. However, you can investigate the following options:

1. Donegal (presumably Donegal Town) to Bushmills - Travel from Donegal to Derry via Bus Eireann Expressway service (www.buseireann.ie) and then from Derry to Bushmills by Ulsterbus/Northern Ireland Rail (www.translink-co-uk). The Derry-Bushmills route is probably not direct and may involve a rail/bus combination, depending on date of travel.

2. Bushmills to Belfast - again check options on the Translink site.

3. Belfast to Dublin Airport - either by coach via Bus Eireann Expressway or Translink (Ulsterbus) - websites as above for timetables.

Thank you for your replies. We are traveling in early May and do not have any time line except to end up at the Dublin airport on May 9th for departure. We will probably B&B or hotel it for 2-4 days. Again thank you you have been very helpful.

it just occurred to me that it might be logistically easier to travel from Donegal Town to Derry and then onwards directly to Belfast. From Belfast, you should be able to get a coach tour to Bushmills and the Giant's Causeway. Assuming you are OK with coach tours, you could check out the Translink site for this -or also get advice on the TA Northern ireland site as suggested by Trintraveller.

There is an Ulsterbus route service number 172 which takes in Coleraine, Giants Causway, Bushmills and Derry.

For other routes including rail travel we sugest that you check out website: www.gotobelfast.com

Thanks for all the advise but we may consider going from Dublin on a day tour as this seems to be very simple to arrange.

Day tours to the Giant's Causeway from Dublin generally go via Belfast. One of the more popular is the Railtours which involved train for the Dublin -Belfast leg and then coach to the Giant's Causeway from Belfast. Given your itinerary, I'd look at a day tour from Belfast rather than from Dublin, as there is nothing to be gained by travelling all the way from Belfast to Dublin, simply to head back north again via Belfast to the Causeway.
