Is Limerick a good city to go to for 1 or 2 days? Just trying to fit an extra place into our trip in the Shannon area.

I suppose the answer is, what would you like to do?

Its a good base to visit West Clare and see some of the interesting areas around Limerick-Tipperary. And it also has its own attractions as follows:

The Hunt Museum www.huntmuseum.com (free to visit on Sundays!!)

King John's Castle www.shannonheritage.com › Attractions

St, Mary's Cathedral www.cathedral.limerick.anglican.org

The Georgian House www.limerickcivictrust.ie/georgian/index.html

Thomond Park Interactive Rugby Museum www.thomondpark.ie/museum/index.php

Then out a bit further:

The National Self-Portrait Collection

The National Watercolour Collection

The Living Bridge - Ireland's longest Pedestrian Bridge.

All in the University of Limerick

For Shopping, the Crescent Shopping Centre is excellent.

Then out a little further:

Adare Village www.adarevillage.com A lovely village

Lough Gur www.loughgur.com

Palatine Museum, Rathkeale www.irishpalatines.org

Bunratty Castle (Co. Clare) shannonheritage.com/.../BunrattyCastleFolkPa…

Craggaunowen www.shannonheritage.com › Attractions › Craggaunowen

Castleconnell en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castleconnell

Clare Glens en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clare_Glens

Glenstal Abbey www.glenstal.org

Killaloe and Lough Derg www.discoverkillaloe.com

2. Re: Limerick?

wow, that's a lot of information. We're going to be in Galway for 3 days and have a few days remaining in our trip before leaving from Shannon. So I was just trying to debate between going to Limerick or Ennis.

You should visit Limerick rather than Ennis, as there are numerous good hotels. You can also go to Thomond Park rugby ground, which has a tour and exhibition, if you like sport and then in the evening, go to Clohessy's bar, a famous rugby bar with a good atmosphere. Alternatively, try Dolen's bar on the Dock road (Everyone will direct you there) for traditional music and another good night. There are restaurants in abundance, Azure, Hamptons and Luigi Malones are all good and average prices. If you want a hotel overlooking the river, then go for the Clarion.
