1 vote for Galway. It's a great little city. Plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. Galway also has lots of small quirky shops as well as all the normal high street stores.

It's is also a coastly down so it's a great place to go for a walk along the seafront and blow of the cobwebs from the night before.

There is an airport in Galway but I'm not sure what airlines fly in there. I know Aer Arann fly to Manchester but that may only be on days Manchester United play.

You could fly into double and get a bus directly from Dublin airport to Galway city.

I'm not sure how far or how long it would take to get from Knock to Galway.

You're in luck! Aer Arann fly from Manchester to Galway. They're having a sale until midnight tonight with 30% of adult fares. Galway airport is tiny so you can get through it very quickly so more time to spend enjoying your weekend.

Other than Dublin or Cork your choices for direct flights from Manchester are Knock / Ireland West International with bmibaby (we fly this route about a dozen times a year) but the airport is quite isolated and you'll need to hire a car to get anywhere, Galway and Waterford with Aer Arann (hopefully you've snapped up some of the 30% off tickets that tapl has flagged up) or Belfast City in NI with FlyBe - Galway, Waterford or Belfast would all be wonderful places to spend a birthday weekend :-)

No offence to Tipp, but it's a town and not the place I'd choose for a 40th. We stayed in Ballykisteen for a girls weekend and it was ok, but we hardly moved out of the hotel, no great shops to attract us in the town.

Galway has plenty life and buzz or you could consider flyimg into Kerry and heading to Killarney. There's plenty there between pubs, food and shops and a jarvey trip out to Muckross, though a bit cheesy is great fun

www.aerarann.com fly Manchester to Waterford.

The airport is only 10 minutes from the City or 10 minutes from Dunmore East.Another option for you to consider !

Hello. Having been to Tipp, Limerick, and Galway, I'd say Galway is the best choice. Alot more to do than Tipperary and a nicer downtown and pedestrian walking area the Limerick(no offense to either). You really should look into Waterford before you make final reservations, because it too has alot going for it. Hope this helps and have a good time.
