AA Roadwatch/Routes

This is not Ireland specific but a general plea for help.

In previous years, the AA Database - when looking for directions - times - distance, was absolutely wonderful. It could give directions to diverse locations.

Unfortunately, it appears that the above site is being upgraded - and in the process, the database of locations seems to have dropped considerably.

We're using viamichelin.com at the moment - which I have used before but found less user-friendly than the former incarnation of the AA site, and now wondering if there is a serious contender to this service that we don't know about (we only know about the AA and viamichelin). We've already tried on the UK version of the AA site (theaa.com) and found similar limitations this year on directions that would have been comprehensive in previous years.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I've shamelessly stolen this link from Tonyirish - on another thread.

It might do the job - I'll test it myself later.

Just tested it - it looks really good, even a visual.

Hi beanalainn

In the last two months I have been planning my trip to Ireland using google maps.

I have found it good because once you have a route between A and B you can drag it about the map to include where you want to visit and it will recalculate it automatically and it works in either kilometers or miles.

It does take a bit of getting used to at first but I have found it invaluable and when printing out it gives you a small map of your via points which I have found you can adjust in and out to show more or less of the area.

as to times of travel it gives I will find that out next month leaving on the 8th May

I've been using Google and AA Roadwatch Ireland and Michelin to plan our trip! Sometimes it's good to compare. I do like this new suggested site also, and I think that both it and Google maps have the best print layouts.

That is a good link Carrsmill.

There is a problem with some GDS in (unique to) this part of the country where some places are accepted, but diverted to Ennis - and that seems to be working from the same data base.

I've emailed them in an effort to sort it.

Excellent resource though.

Thanks Carrsmill, that RAC site is exactly what I am looking for.

It is the first site that has actually directed me to where I wish to go - Baden in Morbihan - as opposed to Baden Baden in Germany and other similar locations across Europe.

Brilliant!! Thanks again.
