Wexford town restaurant with seafood platter

I have been scouring TA trying to find a restaurant in Wexford town that does a seafood platter combining local cold and hot seafood dishes. I have had an amazing one at the Olde Castle Bar in Donegal (had crab, an oyster, plaice fillet, shrimp, etc.) and am hoping for something similar in Wexford town. We will be arriving around lunch time on Friday, May 11 and would love something along those lines for our first lunch.

Any recommendations? We will be arriving via the coach from DUB, then picking up our rental car in Wexford (not preferred on our arrival day due to no sleep but no choice as Enterprise is not open on Sat, but it is only a few km away from our hotel). We do not want to drive that first day, so in town only please. We have some options in Kilmore Quay as well as the Templar Inn for our other days already.

Thank you!

Which hotel /area will you be in? The Templar Inn is hearty but wouldn't be my choice for much more than fish and chips. The Lobster Pot in Carne is worth seeking out for seafood if you are in the general area-which ,seeing as you mention Kilmore, you will be.

Thanks Harvey,

We will be in Wexford town itself, staying at the Talbot. The next day we plan on checking out Hook Lighthouse, Loftus Hall, Tintern Abbey and the surrounds and heard that Templar Inn has great seafood chowder but if it is more a fish and chips place then maybe not. The Lobster Pot looks great, maybe we should check that out for Sunday...

The Templar has more than fish and chips,. but I wouldn't go there for a seafood platter, it's handy for Hook Head though, so you could do the chowder and fish and chips.

The Talbot is right in the centre of Wexford town but on the right side for Hook. We like to drive from Wexford town to Hook by taking the route on the R733 through Wellingtonbridge then on to Fethard etc.

Then we come back to Wexford town via Duncannon and home either through New Ross or if we have time. we go across the little ferry at Ballyhack and through Waterford. This means you get two different routes out and back to Hook and in the context of quality seafood, you pass right by the gates of here:

Just thought, presume you are doing a day tour of Loftus. No way I'd do a night- time one! Sending you a pm.

Having been a Wexford town resident for years I would say that there is nothing available that matches the description of what you had in Donegal.

La Cote restaurant in town does lovely seafood dishes along with European ones but tends to be on the expensive side and opens evenings only. Their menu is on their website. Sorry, for some reason I can't post a link at the moment.

The best seafood chowder in my opinion is in a pub called The Stores. It is a quirky place worth a visit one way or another.

The Stores can get very busy though, especially at weekends.

Thanks Harvey, yes it would be a day tour!

And Mad, thank you for that information. We will have to call into the Stores to check out their chowder!
