Hi, we’ve hired a cottage in Nairn for a week at the end of August. We have 5 children from 13yrs down to 2yrs old.
We’re planning a boat trip on Loch Ness, any other suggestions? Waterfalls? Dolphin boat trips? Inverness? Moray coast, want to find some history here as our surname is Morey so think it’s a derivative.
They aren’t museum type children, more climbing on everything like wild animal types 🙈
Have a look at "Landmark" in Carrbridge, a smallish woodland based theme park with a butterfly house, rides etc, aimed at a bunch of kids just like yours, our grandsons love it. Try fort george at nearby Ardersier, lots to see and look out for dolphins from the walls, Clava cairns and Culloden battlefield, I think brodie castle has a play area,( best check). If it,s wet there is the aquadome in Inverness and a ball pit/soft play thing at Asda and another next to Aldi at Inshes retail park.
As well as the above, Plodda Falls nr Tomich is one of our best and most accessible high falls - with a walkway built right-out over the falls.
If you like Golden Retrievers, stop and have a look at the monument in Tomich - Which is where they were first bred.
For Dolphins, Ft George can be good, as can the Dolphin Centre at Spey Bay but the best of all is Chanonry Point, where the deep water/current just offshore means the dolphins breech really close the shore. Check tide times though as the best sightings are always on a rising tide - which is when the fish run and the Dolphins follow them-in.
Gordon Castle Garden has an excellent play area and a good cafe/interesting garden and Logie Steading nr Forres has another good cafe, some interesting shops and easy walks to the Findhorn/Randolph's Leap. Its also where the Digestive Biscuit was first baked..!

Might be a bit far but Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig south of Aviemore might be of interest

I would also have a look at Whats On in The Cairngorms National Park. Although you aren't in it, it's not far to drive to the area around Aviemore ( 25 miles?) and there are often organised activities for children, both free and payable and some very informative.
