Scotland-based stag do...

I have been charged with organising my best friend's stag do. He has some very specific ideas about what he wants and I haven't really got a clue where to begin. So I came here!

I'm posting in all of the Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen forums as these are going to have the highest following and hopefully the greatest amount of replies.

First things first we are likely to be a group of twelve and we have fixed on a weekend in mid-May.

My friend wants an outdoorsy do somewhere remote, possibly needing an adventurous journey to get to, be it on foot, by boat or off-road vehicles.

Preferably we aren't looking for a stag do package type trip. We'd like a much more organic schedule that we can build ourselves.

We'd be interested in, but not limited to, sailing, fishing, hiking/mountaineering and shooting/hunting.

We'd need accommodation that could fit us all and in a perfect world we'd be looking for a cottage/barn/house/castle without too many creature comforts and where we have to take most of what we need with us.

Pretty specific, hey?

Obviously this is all perfect world stuff and we expect to have to be flexible. But this is our starting point. And absolutely any help would be appreciated. If it's links to accommodation options or activity suppliers great but even just suggestions of where might be more appropriate forums to post would be welcome.

Thank you.

Well, based on trying to get a parcel delivered to the Highlands from anywhere in "The South" even the area around Speyside is considered remote!!

Aviemore may be a good place for your base with loads of outdoor activities in the area and further beyond. You could even do some camping for a couple of nights? There is plenty of accommodation in the area which would house large groups though I would avoid using the words "stag do" on your booking as it tends to put accommodation providers off!!

Somewhere like Great North Lodges may fit the bill and then you could just pick and choose your days out or build in some R & R but be close enough to civilisation for eating out, food shopping etc.

Companies like G2 Outdoors or Craggan Outdoors would be able to provide suggestions for activities with all the right safety equipment - you do, of course, want to be able to deliver the groom to the alter in one piece!!

Coupled with this you could fly to Inverness from LGW and hire a car/van at the airport OR get the train from London via Edinburgh to Aviemore which has a mainline station. Aviemore is about 30 miles south of Inverness.

In this area of Speyside you are also in the heart of whisky country so maybe a visit to a distillery could be one of your trips?

Check out distillery locations on this map...

Hope that has given you a few ideas - good luck with your planning
