Suggest an Itinerary

Hi, I am traveling to Edinburgh on the 20th of August, Will reach there by train around 3:00 PM. I am there until Thursday morning.

I was hoping someone could suggest an itinerary for this 3-day trip.

Also, is it recommended to book the Loch Ness tour?

Thanks.

No, the Loch Ness tour is not recommended.

why spend all day on a coach when thee us so much going on in Edinburgh.

You have three nights in Edinburgh (booked, I hope?) so only two full days.

Dont waste one.

If you are staying in Edinburgh then a visit to Loch Ness is not recommended.

There are other shorter tours plus the option of day trips on public transport. Plenty to see and do in Edinburgh itself.

A suggestion:

- 3pm check into hotel. Visit National Museum of Scotland. Dinner in Old Town. Mary King’s Close (book ahead)

- 1st full day: visit Edinburgh Castle (prepaid tickets), have lunch 12 in the castle, visiting until 1 o clock shot. Head down Royal Mile seeing St Giles’ Cathedral, visit Palace of Holyroodhouse or Scottish Parliament. Walk up Calton Hill. Dinner in New Town. Walk up Princes Street to get a nice night time view of Edinburgh Castle,

- 2nd full day: travel to Leith by public bus, visit Royal Yacht Britannia, afternoon at leisure (Water of Leith walkway from the finish, Botanic Gardens, anything you might have missed).

Forget Loch Ness.

Loch Ness is too far for one day.

But certainly try one of the shorter small group tours operated by companies like Rabbies and Timberbush.

You are in Edinburgh at the height of the Festivals, so plenty to occupy your time in Edinburgh without spending a day on a bus going to and from Loch Ness.

Plenty more scenery a lot closer to Edinburgh if you are prioritising scenery over Festivals.
