Hi, we will spend 2 days in Oban in November (we will have a car). Any recommendations for things to do and where to go in the area - by car or by ferry?
I missed the November bit too! Boat trips out.
You and Scotlandmac had me right confused there, RojBlake!Edited: 06 November 2018, 22:19
However, a trip south of Oban, is also worth considering - The Kilmartin Glen area contains a host of archaeological and historic sites, incl large numbers of rock carvings stone circles, cairns an other things of interest, all of which are accessible at any time.
Plus the ancient capital of Dalriada at Dunadd fort, just off the main road and the end of the canal at Crinan - You can have a great day not far at all from Oban.
Thank you so much for all the useful tips!
Just a quick report after our trip... Oban or An t-Oban in Scottish Gaelic :) is a nice small sea town with beautiful views to the neighbouring islands. Lots of hotels (Muthu Alexandra is a great choice), bars, restaurants (try Cuan Mor), shops at the bay. The Oban distillery is also worth visitng. And a trip to Isle of Mull is a must for all nature lovers - its wild beauty is simply fascinating! The ferry is convinient (book tickets in advance) and fortunately we didn't have any issues with the weather in November - sunny and warm and... of course windy!!
We didn't have time for Tobermoray and Iona (we drove to Phionnfort with many stops for admiring the nature on the way). It doesn't seem very different but probably next time.
All in all, we liked very much Scotland and will definitely come back to explore it further! Cheers!
Thanks for the report doodko - it sounds like you had a great trip, and were very lucky with the weather!
