Taxi stone circle access/Stonehenge

We have reservations for stone circle access the only date in January 2018. Any idea of cost and availability for a taxi? We have to be there around 7:30 I think so not possible to take public transportation. Does the taxi have to wait, or can we arrange for later pick up if we want to take our time?

Taxis are perfectly possible but the cost, you’ll need to ask....early start, maybe wait, maybe not.

This chap does this sort of trip http://www.vicstaxi.com/ and he gets very encouraging reviews here https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Rev…

Taxi from where?

Yes, I see this is in the Salisbury forum, and you probably mean from Salisbury, but it might be wise to confirm this.....

It will be extra for the taxi going there because of the early hour.. It should cost less returning if it's after 8am.

I would arrange a collection time. You can be in the warm in the gift shop or cafe.

I can't guarantee this is accurate but it should be close.

If you do more than one search on it you need to clear the search form compleatly otherwise it gets itself in a knot.

http://www.vicstaxi.com/ will probably be the best price you'll get. He can wait for you or come back and collect you later in the morning. The gift shop will be open when you get back from the stones, but the exhibition area won't open until 9.30 am. It's worth spending some time having a look around the centre before you leave.

Sounds like you've got a 7.45 or 8am slot. You'll have an hour within the circle, including the shuttle bus to and from. So you'll be done by 9am. The shop certainly will be open as they want your money! And I expect the café will be too. So now it's 09.30am when the place opens up for the day, and you can then go and look at the exhibition (keep your inner circle access confirmation as you'll need to show that to get into the exhibition). So it could be 10am by the time you finish.

I do hope you're staying nearby, as a taxi from London would be very expensive. But if you're using eg vicstaxi then he can go away, and come back again at an agreed time. Do visit Salisbury as well. It's a lovely mediaeval town (city) with a fabulous cathedral.

There are, of course, other taxi operators in Salisbury, but they will be very busy between 0800 and 0900, so if you can make sure that your return journey is after 0930, you will probably find it easier to book one.

I just saw this thread and a little confused. Is the question of "Stone Circle" referring to Stonehenge?

Also, the writer refers to site access? If it is Stonehenge they are referring to isn't access to the site given with the hop on and off bus tour?

It is given with the bus tour, but anyone else can book a time slot for a visit if they want to travel by car, bike or walk there whatever means of travel they like.

I would guess they mean Stonehenge, but there are many other sites around the UK that are stone circles such as Avebury which is quite close by, you are correct.

Strictly speaking you can just pay for the bus, but logically most people also pay the driver for site access as that way you miss the time-managed entrance ticket system. You can circulate outside the stones with an excellent audio guide and at one point get very close to, but not in touching distance of, the stones.

Separately, limited numbers of tickets (30?)are sold for access before and after normal opening hours, with these tours you have free access and can walk between the stones (under supervision) - it is these limited tours that are being referred to as Circle tours as you are inside the stone circle.

Yes, it's the 'stone circle access' that was being queried with the title. This is the name English Heritage gives to the outside- of -general -admission visits that PMQ has mentioned. (And yes, it is for up to 30 people).

Just in case it's helpful for you Forrest W, this is the info: english-heritage.org.uk/visit/…
