Regarding the literary giants you mentioed - CS Lewis etc - I would recommend making a day trip to Oxford - home to CS Lewis and Tolkien.

Its an awe inspiring city and its only an hour by train from London.

If you are interested in Beatrix Potter, try and get to the Lake District, where she lived her later life.

Apart from being a children's author, she also has the potential to be an inspiring role model to young people, especially girls and women. As a young woman, she was potentially a gifted scientist and researcher, but her ambitions were thwarted because, as a woman, she could not attend the scientific institutions of the time (the Linnaeus Society later made a posthumous apology for the sexism it displayed in the handling of her research).

Her literary career developed from her love of illustration, and from stories she developed to entertain the son of her former Governess, who was often ill. Her first book was published in 1901 and her output was prolific until the First Word War, when she began devoting her energies toward farming, sheep-rearing and land conservation in her beloved Lake District. She became a full participant in the life of the are, and was noted for her work in promoting the breeding of the local Herdwick sheep. She used her money to buy properties and farms in the Lake District, and when she died most of these were left to the National Trust, enabling them to be incorporated into the Lake District National Park when it was created in 1951.

You say you want to travel to London, Scotland and Ireland. Looking at your interest I would add England to your list as well.

Winnie the Pooh comes from Sussex - pleasant walks in the countryside:

I know you said elementary school teachers, but of course Harry Potter abounds everywhere (it feels like), so lots of places to visit with him in mind.
