Travelling from Stansted Airport to Watford, Herts.

What is the economical way to get to Watford from Stansted airport? There are four of us with a few pieces of luggage.

Any info would be much appreciated.

A pre-booked car service will be the easiest way, and 4 train tickets will probably cost roughly the same as a car service. If you book one though make sure you ask for an estate car (people mover) to be able to get the amount of luggage in.

If Adamhornets is around he might suggest a local car service from Watford area to pick you up at airport.

Thanks. Are there car service available at the airport or do we have to pre-book one earlier?

Pre book a car service. Try one of these.

You will have to pre book. Taxis will be more expensive. I use Lucketts and they can cover an estate car from Stansted for £55- £60 depending exactly where in Watford you need to end up.

The alternative would be local bus from the airport to Harlow and the 724 Express bus to Watford Junction but the journey would take twice as long, the cost for 4 would probably nearly equal the cost of the car service and you will still need to get from the Junction to your final destination.

A (possibly) faster way of picking up the 724 express bus would be the National Express Heathrow coach from the Stansted to Hatfield (Galleria) and change there. About an hour and a half travel time plus waiting.

OK for a single traveller maybe but with 4 of you stick with the car service

Hi all, Many thanks for the valuable information. Will check out the car service as most practical for our group. Cheers.

Bit late as this was last year but maybe can be of use to others.

Step 1 - Watford Junction to Hatfield

If your flight is in the daytime, you could get the 724 Greenline coach from Watford Junction to Hatfield. Alternatively, if you have a friend with a car, maybe they could drop you. FInal option would be a taxi - i paid about 26GBP for a taxi at 3am to drop me from Watford to Hatfield Galleria (one way) . Info and timetable is here

Step 2 - Hatfield to Stansted

There is a national express coach which goes from Victoria to Stansted and it's last stop before Stansted is Hatfield. Costs about GBP8 for a single.

For the journey the other way, just reverse the steps :)
