Things to do with teenages

HI,

We will be visiting Newhaven in the school holidays and would be grateful for some advice on things to do. We have one 14 year old with mobility problems so hiking or walking long distances is out. We also have a 17 (almost 18) year old who is interested in WW2 vehicles and planes. We also hope to spend some time at the beach and do some swimming so recommendations would be appreciated (don't mind shingles).

Thanks in advance

A day trip to nearby Brighton to visit the sights the city has to offer. Easily reached by bus or train.

The East Sussex Coast is basically shingle all the way, the only sand dunes are in the Far East at Camber, so you’re in luck there !

Unfortunately, many of the towns (Lewes, Rye, Hastings- even Brighton in places) are quite hilly. Stick to the seafront at Brighton and Hastings though and you’ll be fine. I’d say that those places are your best bet for a fun day out by the sea.

The ww2 thing is tricky. https://www.rmwcollection.co.uk is a bit of a drive, but you could combine with a trip to Camber Sands, should you have tired of the steep, pebbly beaches by then. But if the weather is good, then I implore you to go on a Monday rather than at the weekend - when the traffic queues in the area will be terrible, as (seemingly) all of south east London decamps to Camber. You have been warned !

Have a good trip.

Mike

Oh yes the queues going into Camber can be madness. I used to work in Camber and wasn't fun getting to work sometimes for an insanely busy day.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Wewill be visiting the fort at Newhaven as it is about 15 mins walk from the property so a nice easy Sunday after travelling all day Saturday. The beaches seem good so as the weather is looking nice for the week we are there we should be able to explore.

Thanks

Julie
