A Month in Port Issac

We're planning to spend a month, probably September, in Port Issac. I want to experience life as a Cornwall-ian, as much as possible. Other than the fabulous water and coastal hiking, are there other things to do such as a local library, crafting classes, Cornwall language lessons? I'm looking for community-type events, not private lessons. We will also go on day trips so peace and quiet most of the time would be welcome. Any suggestions?

How about St.Mawes? Just over an hour by bus from Truro railway station and linked to Falmouth by the passenger ferries. Pretty village but with easy access to the larger amenities of Falmouth.

You can get the train to Liskeard from Reading (coach from Heathrow) or Paddington (Heathrow express train)

Then train to Looe and bus or cab to Polperro. Or cab from Liskeard all the way.

There is a dining car on the train, which does fabulous food.

if your month is flexible there may be a possibility of meeting the Doc http://www.docmartinonline.net/season-eight/

He was very good about having photos taken with Americans during filming breaks and about catching peppermints, although I would have thought that made him feel like a monkey.

Seriously? I thought the show was done. We were in Crackington Haven in 2008 and were offered roles as stand-ins (we happened to become friends with someone who knew one of casting folks), but we had to turn it down as we already had plans for that day. It would be fun to see a little shooting. Thanks!

The production company have stopped publicly advertising filming dates as it has become increasingly difficult to get their work done with so many people coming to watch. Some dispute over whether there will be a season 9 but season 8 seems to be on the cards. Filming is usually around May/June.
