Any Difference in Enjoyment?

Hi All

Would appreciate advice from those with experience. I have option to stay in Pohara 17-20 Dec or 3-6 Jan. Would 17-20 Dec be less crowded or much the same? Obviously would pick the quieter dates if there is such a thing!

Thanks for any advice

Definitely it will be ten times quieter 17-20 dec rather than during our peak holiday season of 3-6 jan. I would totally avoid golden bay from 21 dec as it will be overflowing - not a campsite, cafe table to be found.

School holidays just starting and everyone shopping etc for christmas so you would definately be better off between 17th -20th Dec. After the new year all NZ will be on the road especially in the beach areas.

Hope you have booked something already.

I think 10 times is understating It! It doesn't get any more crowded anywhere in South Island at anytime.

Thank you all for your advice. My intuition was that pre-Xmas would be less crowded, but without "local knowledge" I was unsure of the real difference. Your combined insight is much appreciated
