What to do for 5-days during Cape Town's winter (June 2013)?

Heard and read a lot of positives on CPT. So, we jump on a great airfare to CPT in June but after booking, realized it is winter over there! Have the usual bucket list but worried that rain and cold temps would ruin the experience. No cause for worries or should we pack our parkas and winter coats?

1) Table Mountain cable car

2) Cape Peninsula, Cape Point National Park

3) V&A Waterfront

4) Robben Island (worth the trip or overrated?)

5) Wine Tour

Would love to hear from those who have lived-in/visited CPT in the winter time.

We normally go in SA winter as hotels and restaurants offer great value off-season. As Gavin says the weather in Cape Town could be anything but then you could reasonably say that all year round. We have seen snow and we have sunbathed in 30 degrees over the years

We call Winter in Cape Town the secret or green season as the weather can be amazing, but then it is really unpredictable, so can also be stormy & rainy. Luckily, there is so much to do, see and eat that you'll still have a wonderful holiday. If you come mentally prepared for bad weather and the weather turns out well, it'll be a bonus and pleasant surprise. The advantage, as Belfast says, is that ALL properties, restaurants and attractions offer exceptional deals plus the advantage of less tourists, so no queues, less traffic etc.

Thank you for coming to visit us!

Hi

I'm planning my first winter trip after several summer trips. As Belfast says accommodation costs are much less and don't be afraid to negotiate

I am planning to do some of the things I have never managed to fit in.....slave lodge, District Six, the Castle

Don't forget a trip to Constantia too for the wineries there. Not sure what Kirstenbosch looks like in June though?

So pack a mix of clothes for all weathers!

First trip to CapeTown, 7th trip to Africa. We also have 5 days in CT in June. We are staying at aGuest B&B walking distance to A&V mall. We are doing Table Mt., the Gardens, A&E waterfront mall, Two Oceans Aquarium, and a http://www.meljo-tours.com/ car and driver place (recommended in C.T. in travel books) city shopping tour. Night cruise. (2 days)

We are getting a car and driver from LED Tours (3 days, 2 nights) to go up to Oudtshoorn. to Buffelsdrift , which offers a day activity riding, brushing and visiting with elephants.

We are staying at a cheaper hotel, not the lodge. The next day we are going to Cango Wildlife Ranch. Here is where you can also have a cheetah experience (touching). They unfortunately do not do Croc cage diving that time of the year as it is too cold. Other animal sthat you can have an encounter with are lemurs, servals, reptiles and snakes. http://www.cango.co.za/natural-encounters.php

(We were hoping for the croc cage diving as we are both teachers and our students would love the pictures.)

to Plettenberg for Birds of Eden. They also have Monkey World, which is hands-on if you want, but we are not doing that.

Good luck. We are planning on having a wonderful time!

You have more than enough days to have fun and do a load of sightseeing. Even if the weather does not play along, you can change the days around and make the best of them.
