It's that time again and we're starting to plan for next summer!

We're thinking of going somewhere just to East of Chania - and have narrowed it down to Kalyves, Almyrida or Georgipouli. Ideally, we'd like to have a sandy beach, calm water and plenty of rocks just offshore for snorkelling. Can someone suggest which of these would be best for us?

Also, if anyone can suggest a particular place to stay, we'd appreciate it - somewhere locally owned with just a few apartments, with a pool and within an easy walk of the beach would be perfect

Georgioupolis would get our vote and as well as the beach that runs for miles east of the town but isn't sheltered you have the sheltered Kalyvaki Beach to the west of the harbour (two minute walk from the harbour). Here's some snaps of Kalyvaki beach https://flic.kr/s/aHskEDnH5C and for an idea of Georgioupolis https:/…

My parents own a house midway betweek Kalyves and Almyrida so I've been there about a dozen times.

Both have a number of very nice restaurants and a few bars. Nice sandy beaches with calm shallow water.

Almyrida is slightly more touristy, with livelier bars and football on the TV, Kalyves is more of a traditional Greek village and you will see more locals in the bars.

If you choose Almyrida I would recommend Gianna Apartments, one road back from the seafront with a nice pool. It is run by the owner and his sister.

Alternatively you could look at Almyrida Studios, right on the beach. It is owned by a company that also owns 2 large hotels in Almyrida but the Studios is a small complex of 12 studios in a 2 storey building. I'm actually staying there myself next June as the whole family is over there and we won't all fit in my parent's house!!!
