Calabria region - what to see and do in 7-10 days

We have travelled extensively in Italy, but are new to the Calabria region and need help. We will have a car and speak Italian and want to experience the culture of the region - food, people, history etc. Any suggestions? We like great food and at least 4 star accomodations at the best prices, of course! Thank you. G & G

I found Tropea to be a beautiful town with a stunning beach. Nearby Pizzo is also an interesting place to visit.

You can visit the Sila, where they have I Gigante, the giant pine trees and it is always at least 10 degrees cooler than the coastal temps.

From Tropea, there are ferries that take day trips to the Aeolian Islands of Sicily, or a night trip to Stromboli, where there is a volcano.

Drive down to Reggio to visit the fantastic Bronzes in the museum, then stop in Scilla to see the wonderful fishing village of Chinalea. This should keep you busy, and don't forget to swim in the crystal clear waters!
