How long does it take to drive from Toronto to Stratford?

We're planning a two week trip to Toronto in mid-September and would like to do day trips from there. We are retired and our schedule is very flexible...we could actually spend one week in Toronto and then select another location for another week. We have already visited Victoria, Montreal and Quebec. We love art museums and are not outdoorsy, so hiking will not be on our agenda. We love good restaurants and good wines. We will be renting a car for the duration.

We would love to have your feedback on planning this lovely trip. Thank you in advance.

Google maps is a wonderful tool. Everyone should learn to use it.

It shows me that it’s 2 hours and 9 minutes from Toronto to Stratford. It would be more with rush hour and construction.

If you like good wine, then Niagara on the Lake or Prince Edward County should interest you.

The time it takes to drive from Toronto to anywhere depends on three things: (1) where in Toronto you are starting from, (2) what day of the week you are making the trip, and (3) what time of day you want to leave. If you enter your hotel location and your planned day and time of departure into Google Maps, it will give you a typical range of travel times.

In general, I would say that Toronto is not a great base if you want to take day trips to other locations. For seeing the sites in Toronto, it's best to stay downtown, but then it takes you at least 2 hours to get anywhere else. So I would recommend the option of a second base. Stratford would be a decent base for exploring Southwestern Ontario, if that's the area you are interested in. Ottawa would be another good option, especially if you are interested in art and museums.

If you like good wine you need to explore the Niagara Region, and Prince Edward County.

This site gives info on the various wine regions in the province:

Agree with post # 2 - one base to explore southern Ontario is not that realistic. Choose another in either western, eastern or north of the city. Or consider a road trip loop... lots of small towns can be explored by using back roads and secondary highways.

The Ontario travel website is a good starting point - check under the explore tab for the regions, and then use the linked sites - every region has its own tourism site:
